Official Court Transcriptionist Job Description
This is a full-time position available, with the possibility of part-time work. Successful applicants will be subject to a criminal background check and serve a one-year probationary period. The position requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Job Qualifications
- Successful applicants will be subject to a criminal background check and serve a one-year probationary period
- The position requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Graduate of a post-secondary court reporting (stenography) program approved by NCRA and the Montana Supreme Court
- Excellent typing skills, ability to operate and troubleshoot computerized recording systems, ability to produce transcripts, and understanding of court procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a high level of concentration and attentiveness throughout all court proceedings
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, if required by the location of the assignment
- Background checks and clearance may be required, depending on the specific job requirements
Job Responsibilities
- Set up and operate computerized recording equipment and stenograph machines in courtroom settings
- Maintain accurate records of court proceedings, including verbal communications and nonverbal incidents
- Prepare and distribute official transcripts, as required
- Provide administrative support to judges and other court officials, as needed
- Communicate with litigants and the public regarding requests for official transcripts
- Work collaboratively with other court staff to ensure smooth and efficient court operations
