This is a highly responsible and advanced skill technical role as an Official Court Reporter for the First Judicial District in Helena, Montana
Court reporters play a critical part in ensuring the integrity of court proceedings by capturing a verbatim record of all verbal communications. They use computerized recording equipment or stenography machines to achieve this goal. The Official Court Reporter exercises independent judgment in their job performance, preparing transcripts according to rules of court, state statutes, and policies.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, excellent typing abilities, and the ability to operate and troubleshoot complex recording systems. Preference is given to graduates of a post-secondary court reporting program approved by NCRA and the Montana Supreme Court. Relevant experience may also be considered where the candidate can demonstrate exceptional skills and knowledge of court procedures.
Some of the key duties of this position include attending sittings of court, setting up and operating recording equipment, monitoring sound levels, and maintaining a complete and accurate record of all proceedings. The official Court Reporter must remain focused and attentive throughout the proceedings, even in challenging conditions. This role requires a high level of concentration and attention to detail to ensure the integrity of the recorded proceedings.
